Skiing and Snowboarding

The Oberengadin resort with its 56 lifts and over 210 miles (350 km) of high quality slopes is the ideal place for those who like skiing and snowboarding. Oberengadin’s location with its high altitude helps to ensure the availability of snow throughout the winter months. The resort also use state of the art snow-making systems. From Sils‘ landmark mountain the Furtschellas gives you easy access to the winter paradise located at over 9000 ft (2800m).

A variety of mountainside restaurants is available within the resort, which means that you can enjoy Swiss classics right next to the slopes. The cool Bar Rabigusa also offers a variety of different foods and drinks, if you fancy starting your apres ski session while still on the slopes.

Backcountry skiing is another option for those who want to enjoy the beautiful Swiss winter. When backcountry skiing security is always a priority. Skiiers have to have the required gear and experience to go backcountry skiing.

Did you ever fancy a walk over a frozen lake? Walking and hiking – with snowshoes or without – in winter helps protect your immune system. When walking in the valley you have a choice of numerous hiking routes, which allows you to explore the region in a more gentle way.

Cross-country skiing

Skater and Classic variants of the sport are equally popular in the Engadin region. Sils and its sourrounding towns and villages offer over 120 mi (200 km) of cross-country ski runs.

The Engadin has established itself as a major venue for the popular winter sport in the last few years. Every year more interested skiers come to the region to participate in the „Engadiner Skimarathon“.

The winter is a very unique time of the year for children. With a multitude of winter outdoor activities available, there is always something to do in Sils. There is obviously skiing, but families also enjoy sledding. Many sled runs of different difficulties, speeds, and lengths are available.  And once you are done being active for the day, you can warm up in one of Sils‘ restaurants or bars.

If you are into ice skating, the Engadin has lots to offer too. There are a total of 14 ice skating rinks in the surrounding area, at least one in every village or town. Younger children will have lots of fun on the ice, while their older siblings can participate in games of hockey, curling or ice stock curling.

Little princesses enjoy magical carriage rides through the winterly landscape, while those looking for more of a thrill can try snowtubing. Snowtubing is a modern twist on traditional sledding where tubes are used instead of sleds. Snowtubing requires specific runs that allow for high speeds. Fun and Action are guaranteed and all that in the picturesque backdrop of the Engadin.
